Glove box is a widely used equipment in scientific research and industrial production, which provides a controlled environment without water or oxygen for the operation of sensitive materials. Proper use of glove boxes is crucial for protecting experimental samples, ensuring the accuracy of experimental results, and ensuring the safety of operators. Here are some operational precautions to be taken when using a glove box:

  • Familiar with the structure and function of glove boxes

Before operating the glove box, users should be familiar with the structure, functions, and operating methods of the glove box. Understand the position and function of key components such as the control system, gas purification system, and transition chamber of the glove box.

  • Check the integrity of the gloves

Gloves are the main interface for conducting experiments inside the glove box. Before use, the gloves should be checked for damage, aging, or perforation. Damaged gloves may cause contamination of the internal atmosphere of the glove box or harm to operators caused by chemicals inside the glove box.

  • Prepare the necessary experimental materials

Before starting the experiment, transfer all necessary materials, reagents, and tools through the transition chamber to the glove box, ensuring that they are in a dry and clean state to avoid contaminating the atmosphere inside the glove box; Try to transfer the materials at once and do not frequently open the transition chamber.

  • Keep the purification status of the glove box normal

Regularly check the sealing of the purification column and the adsorption capacity of the adsorption material of the purification column to maintain the purity of the internal environment of the glove box. When replacing the purification column or performing glove box regeneration treatment, the manufacturer's instructions should be followed.

  • Pay attention to the safety of gas use

Glove boxes usually use inert gases such as nitrogen or argon to maintain the internal environment. Attention should be paid to the safety of gas pipeline connections and to prevent gas leaks.

  • Avoid overloading

Do not place too many items in the glove box, as this may result in insufficient operating space, affecting gas flow and purification efficiency. If there is a high demand for experiments, it is recommended to replace the multi station glove box or customize a glove box with larger space.

  • Regular maintenance and cleaning

Regularly clean and maintain the glove box, including cleaning the inside and outside of the box, inspecting the electrical system and gas pipelines, vacuum pump oil, etc.

  • Comply with safety regulations

Always comply with laboratory safety regulations, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment such as laboratory coats and gloves.

  • Record usage status

Record the usage of the glove box, including usage time, types of experiments conducted, environmental conditions, and any abnormal situations, which is beneficial for later summarization and discovery of abnormalities.

  • Emergency preparedness

Understand and prepare for emergency situations that may occur during the use of glove boxes, such as gas leaks, fires, or power failures, and provide emergency preparedness training for operators.

By following these operating procedures, users can ensure the effective operation of the glove box while protecting the safety of experimental samples and operators. Proper use and maintenance of glove boxes are crucial for obtaining reliable experimental results.
