The glove port is an essential component for sealed operation in a glove box. The quality of its installation directly affects the overall sealing performance of the chamber. A standardized assembly process and controlled tightening torque help prevent uneven stress on the glass and support reliable long-term operation.
Begin by fitting the matching seal to the aluminum glove port. After the seal is installed, pass the port into the chamber through the large antechamber. Alternatively, the port can be placed inside the chamber before the viewing-window glass is installed, allowing assembly preparations to be completed in advance.
Align the aluminum glove port inside the chamber with the opening in the chamber glass. Make sure the port sits fully and evenly in the glass opening. From the outside of the chamber, position the glove-port nut and washer, then tighten the nut by hand for preliminary fixation. Confirm that the port is straight and correctly positioned, without shifting or tilting.
After preliminary tightening, install the hex-socket flat-point set screws in the glove-port nut. Use a hex key and tighten symmetrically in two stages. During the first stage, tighten to approximately 70%–80% of the total specified torque. During the second stage, tighten to 100% of the specified torque.
The specified tightening torque for the hex-socket flat-point set screws is 0.6–0.8 N·m. Excessive torque can concentrate stress in one area of the glass and cause it to crack, while insufficient torque may allow the glove port to loosen and create a potential leak path.
Adjust the orientation of the rubber glove and place its cuff evenly over the glove port. Ensure that the glove is not twisted or wrinkled. Next, fit the two O-rings in sequence. Correct positioning helps maintain airtightness around the glove port and prevents outside air from entering the chamber.
After assembly, carry out visual and sealing checks. Confirm that the glove port is secure and that the set screws are fully tightened. Check that the glove cuff sits flat against the port and that both O-rings are fully seated in their grooves without displacement or lifted edges. Inspect the glass for cracks or other damage.
The glove box can then undergo the applicable leak-check procedure to determine whether leakage is present around the glove-port area. Do not put the equipment into service until the assembly has been confirmed acceptable.
Careful glove-port installation is an important part of maintaining the low-moisture, low-oxygen inert atmosphere inside a glove box. Following the specified assembly sequence and torque requirements helps protect the glass, improve sealing reliability, and support safe equipment operation.
